How a repair works

I have many years of experience in the repair and restoration of traditional instruments. My work covers a wide range of Iranian instruments: the tar, setar, santur, kamancheh, tanbur and tonbak, as well as the Turkish saz (bağlama). To deepen my knowledge of instrument making I completed a one-year course in violin making in Cambridge, gaining valuable experience in the construction and restoration of string instruments.

Every instrument is treated individually. No two repairs are the same, and each one deserves careful assessment before any work begins. My goal is not simply to repair your instrument, but to preserve its character, playability and sound to the highest standard of workmanship.

Get in touch

Send a few clear photographs, including any damaged areas. Photos help me understand the nature of the repair, but they are not enough for a final quotation.

Inspection

Every instrument is seen in person before any work begins, so I can assess the full extent of the damage, find any hidden issues, and choose the right method.

Quotation

You then get a fixed price, an estimated completion date, and a clear explanation of the proposed repair. Nothing begins until you approve it.

Professional repair

Repairs use appropriate materials and traditional lutherie techniques wherever possible, with care and respect for the instrument.

Final setup

Before collection the instrument is checked, adjusted and tested, so it is comfortable to play and performing at its best.

The prices below are starting prices, meant as a guide. A fixed quotation always follows an inspection.

Skins and specialist work from £80 ▾

Tar · Natural skin replacement from £80

Only premium natural skins are used, selected in person in Iran by an experienced tar and setar maker and carried to the UK. Shipping directly from Iran is difficult at the moment, so sourcing suitable skins takes considerable effort and cost. The result is a skin with excellent tone, response and durability.

Santur · Complete string replacement from £100

Includes complete restringing and basic tuning.

Tonbak · Natural skin replacement from £80

Only carefully selected, high-quality natural skins are used, to preserve the instrument’s authentic sound and playing characteristics.
